Hermosa Avenue: 1949

This is a photo from 1949 of a flooded Hermosa Avenue in Redondo Beach. The photo was taken with the camera facing north.

The building on the right is the Edison power plant (sold to AES in May 1998).  A later addition to this plant, just behind the bus in the photo, serves as the canvas for the famous Wyland whale mural.  The houses on the left were eventually cleared out in the name of redevelopment for King Harbor.
