Long Beach / Lakewood: 1935

This is a 1935 aerial photo of the neighborhood in northeast Long Beach that is bordered by Lakewood Blvd., Carson St., Clark Ave., and Centralia.  The camera is pointing north.

Del Amo Blvd and what will become the Lakewood Mall is just to the north of this photo.  Long Beach City College is just off the right side of the photo.  You can tell this photo is pre-WWII ... notice how the houses were built one at a time.  The "developer" only sold the lots & the owners were in charge of building the houses.  Today, entire neighborhoods are built at once, almost overnight.
