Pacific Electric Viaduct: 1921

Pacific Electric Viaduct: 1921

This is a photo from 1921 of the Pacific Electric Viaduct over what is now Torrance Boulevard. The photo was taken with the camera facing northeast.

The cars are passing under the bridge on what was then El Prado.  The right-most arch in this photo currently spans the east bound lanes of Torrance Boulevard, one of the middle arches spans railroad tracks, and the left-most arch spans the west bound lanes of Torrance Boulevard.  Notice that there is two-way traffic on the road in the photo.  This is because the outside arches served two separate roads at the time.  Some time later, the roads were realigned so that Torrance Boulevard is the only street that runs under the viaduct.
