Hermosa Beach: 1900

This is photo of Hermosa Beach from 1900. The photo was taken with the camera facing west of south.

The Palos Verdes peninsula is visible in the background. The pier visible near the middle of the photo extending out into the ocean is most likely Wharf No. 1, which was located at approximately the northern end of the present day Redondo Beach Pier. The Southern California Edison Company power plant can be seen in the middle left of the photo, with smoke billowing from the smokestacks (there appears to be only two stacks in the photo, one fewer stack than in photos from 25 years later).
